Minerals are an essential nutritional element. Unlike vitamins, minerals are inorganic materials from the earth’s crust. Plants incorporate minerals from the soil and are in turn consumed by animals and humans transferring the minerals into their bodies. Modern food processing techniques, declining soil content, or poor eating choices may all result in sub-optimal levels of minerals in our systems. Ultra Minerals by Vitabase is designed to provide those minerals for good health which frequently are lacking in our diets.
While each mineral can serve a variety of purposes in the body, minerals in general meet two basic needs. First, they are necessary to build skeletal and soft tissue including bones and teeth. Secondly, they are central regulatory processes like heart rhythm, blood clotting, blood pressure, oxygen transport and nerve transmission.
Minerals are divided into two groups: major and trace minerals. Major minerals are those that the body requires a daily intake in excessive 100 mg. Trace minerals are needed in amounts less than 100 mg per day. Ultra Minerals includes the major minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Important trace minerals included are iron, iodine, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and boron. Vitamin D is included to aid absorption of calcium. Horsetail is rich in minerals, particularly silica. Silica helps absorption of calcium. To speed absorption many of the minerals are bound to a protein molecule, a process called chelation. Chelated minerals are transported more easily into the blood stream getting them to the cellular level more efficiently.
